Markets close mixed as U.S.-China trade talks come to an end

Asian indices ended today’s session slightly mixed on reports from U.S. Treasury secretary, Steven Mnuchin, that a trade resolution is nigh and it should be announced very soon.

Mainland China’s markets rose during early hours however failed to maintain the momentum as the Shanghai Composite shed 0.3% and the Shenzhen composite too gave up 0.8%.

In Hong Kong the Hang Seng began a strong session gaining 1.1% but it too failed to close higher as it remained flat.

The Nikkei 225 in Tokyo did rise by 1.37% with shares of SoftBank, Nintendo and Inpex all recording decent gains.

Seoul’s Kospi also closed higher by 0.4% as Asiana Airlines shares rocketed by 30%.

Meanwhile the Aussie ASX 200 remained mostly flat, however the energy and financial sectors added 0.5% and 0.3% respectively.
