Asian markets mixed as investors look ahead to ECB announcement

Asian indices had mixed fortunes today as Wall Street clocked gains and investors look ahead to the ECB announcement later today.

In mainland China the Shanghai Composite and Shenzhen Composite both shed 0.2% and 0.3% accordingly, meanwhile in Hong Kong the Hang Send gained 0.4% as shares of AAC rose by 4.2%.

In Japan the Nikkei 225 rose by 0.6% as Honda and Rakuten continue to rise, gaining 1.6% and 0.9% respectively.

Over in South Korea the Kospi index retreated by 0.2% although shares of chip maker SKHynix rose by 2.4% and the TAIEX in Taipei and the STI in Singapore gained 0.2% and 0.8% respectively.

Rounding the region’s exchange the Aussie ASX200 notched up a 0.3% gain as Rio Tinto and Oil Search shares rose by 0.7% and 1.2% respectively.
