Asian markets fail to get a positive start to the week

Asian indices failed to make a good start to the week, on today’s exchange the only index which managed to notch a win was the TAIEX in Taipei which closed 0.5% higher.


In mainland China the Shanghai Composite retreated by 0.6% while the Hang Seng in Hong Kong saw a bigger deficit of 0.8% as property companies such as China Overseas Land & Investment and Wharf Real Estate shed 2.6% and 3.1% respectively.


Over in Japan the Nikkei 225 fell behind by 0.2% despite SoftBank gaining 2.9%.


Seoul’s Kospi index was mainly flat throughout the session and the Australian ASX200 slid lower by 0.1% although Fortescue Metals and Beach Energy both saw gains of 2.3% and 5.2% respectively.
