Asian indices struggle to make midweek gains

Asian indices have traded in the negative today as investors take on the latest news surrounding US President Donald Trump as lawmakers launched an impeachment inquiry.

Mainland Chinese stocks slipped by the afternoon as the Shanghai composite slid by 0.5% while the Shenzhen component and the Shenzhen composite both gave up 0.5% and 1.1% respectively.

Over in Hong Kong the Hang Seng also was in the red as it shed 0.9% while the Nikkei 225 in Japan fell by 0.4% as shares of SoftBank retreated by 2.5% and Fanuc’s shares also were lower by 2.5% as the company still finds itself dealing with the collapse of tour operator Thomas Cook.

Ending the session in the region, the South Korean Kospi ended lower by 0.7% as so did the Aussie ASX 200 which shed 0.3%.
