Asian indices fail to rally as trade talks are in focus

With focus on the trade talks between the U.S. and China in Beijing today, Asian indices mostly traded lower bar a couple of late rallies to close higher.

Mainland Chinese markets were slightly down as the Shanghai composite shed 0.9% and the Shenzhen composite fell by 0.6%, while in Hong Kong the Hang Seng rose by 0.2%.

In South Korea the Kospi retreated by 0.7% as LG Electronics and SK Hynix fell by 2.3% and 1.5% respectively.

The Japanese Nikkei 225 had a day to forget as it tumbled by 1.5% as Toyota continued a terrible week and Sony shares slipped by 1.9%, with the Topix also posting a bad day as it shed 1.5%.

Ending the session was the ASX 200 down under as it rose by 0.6%.
