Markets mostly down as Xi Jinping's speech begins

Asian markets have once again started the day in mostly negative territory, as investors await China’s President Xi Jinping’s speech later this morning,.

Starting with China, the Shanghai composite dropped by 0.06%, the Shenzhen retreated by 0.092% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was mostly flat throughout.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 fell by 1% and the Topix followed suit by shedding 1.1%

South Korea’s Kospi was flat mainly due to chipmaker SK Hynix’s decline of 1.61%.

Meanwhile in Australia the ASX200 tumbled by 0.86% as most of the big mining companies were recovering from early losses, Rio Tinto up 0.46%, BHP Billiton by 1.27%.

The one exception was Fortescue Metals group as they lost 0.6%.
