Asian markets mixed following Wall Street's wild day, Australian banks recover

Asian stocks have been somewhat mixed in the morning session following wild trading in Wall Street.

Chinese markets saw early gains with the Shanghai composite up 0.19% while the Shenzhen composite rose 0.603%.

Meanwhile Hong Kong's Hang Seng index remained mostly flat.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 dropped 0.36% and the Topix index retreated by 0.88% after nearing its lowest levels since September 2017.

Japanese conglomerate Softbank rose by 2.5% following the company’s announcement of its mobile unit IPO.

South Korea's Kospi rose 0.05% with shares of LG Electronics rising by 2%.

Over in Australia the ASX 200 rose 0.35% in afternoon trade and shares of its Big Four banks bounced back from yesterday’s losses.

Australia and New Zealand Banking Group went up 0.32% and Commonwealth Bank of Australia climbed 0.42%, Westpac rose by 0.40% and National Australia Bank gained 0.28%.
