Asian indices see some gains entering the Christmas holiday

Asian markets broke off trading earlier due to the Christmas holiday with mixed results all across the board apart from Japan’s Nikkei 225 which saw no trading.

In mainland China, the Shanghai composite bounced back from earlier losses to close up 0.2, while the Shenzhen composite edged up by 0.553.

Over in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng dropped by 0.4%.

South Korea’s Kospi index fell by 0.24% as Samsung Electronics saw losses of 0.13%.

Down under, Australia's ASX 200 ended the session up by 0.48% as the banking sector saw gains all around.

ANZ up by 0.26%, Westpac closed higher by 0.13%, the Commonwealth Bank of Australia gained some ground by 0.25% and National Australia Bank climbed by 0.48%.
