Asian indices mostly higher as Trump delays tariff deadline

Asian markets were greeted by the news that Trump will delay the March 1 deadline for the imposing of tariffs and easing tensions over the current trade spat with China.

Mainland China’s Shanghai Composite rose by 3.3% with the Shenzhen composite equally rising by 4%.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng inched higher by 0.2% as Geely Automotive and China Construction Bank gained 3.2% and 0.8% respectively.

South Korea’s Kospi remained mostly flat as Samsung edged higher by 0.2% and SK Hynix shed 1.6%.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose by 0.5% with Nintendo and Sony both advancing by 0.8% and 1.1, meanwhile in Australia the ASX 200 remained unchanged although its energy sector showed some strength with Beach Energy gaining 1.1%.
